Happy 50th Birthday Malaysia

Malaysia the country that I have been living in since the day I was born 03/12/91.. I have never regretted living in this wonderful multiracial country that GOD ALMIGHTY had placed me.... I have to admit nothing is perfect in this world.. but Malaysia fills my life with laughter, sadness, friends, love, care, and etc.. Malaysia had proven herself in a blink of an eye.. She achieve 50 years of independence and I am proud of her.. There are so many changes since the year 1957 the year she achieve independence.. I myself as a warganegara(citizen) of Malaysia is proud to be who I am and where I'm standing now.. Although I wasn't there on that auspicious day 31 August 1957 or maybe I was in the past life, but still I will celebrate this independence day every year with pride and dignity.. I know I wasn't involved in the declaration of independence but we as Malaysians should celebrate together and appreciate this independence till dooms day.. and to you blogger who do not know about Malaysia thats ok because I'll introduce it to you guys..

The past..
Formally this country was known as Tanah Melayu or better know as Malaya.. and the name Malaya was then changed to Malaysia when the country was officially made a federation of 13 states including Sabah and Sarawak. Article 1(1) of the Federal Constitution states that "The federation shall be known, in Malay and English, as Malaysia". Although Singapore broke away and became a nation of its own in 1965, the rest of the states have remained firmly together, combining to make Malaysia the harmonious melting pot of cultures it is today.

Independence Day 31/08/1957
Tanah Melayu had achieve its declaration of independence at 12midnight in Padang Kelab Selangor, Kuala Lumpur.. On this day a new country is found..

Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first prime minister of the Federation Of Tanah Melayu shouted Merdeka for 7 times on the next day at 9.30am in front of 20thousand citizens. Federation Of Tanah Melayu, Sultans and the representatives from The Commanthwealth and other countries in Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.

Quote: "

TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN PUTRA
"BAPA KEMERDEKAAN DAN PENGASAS PERPADUAN KAUM"

...Let no one think we have reached the end of the road : independence is indeed a milestone, but it is only the threshold to high endeavour - the creation of a new and sovereign State. At this solemn moment therefore I call upon you all to dedicate yourselves to the service of the new Malaya : to work and strive with hand and brain to create a new nation, inspired by the ideals of justice and liberty...

(Y.T.M. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra 31 Ogos 1957)

Today...
Malaysia as we know it today is a thriving developing country, often considered a “role model” by its Southeast Asian neighbours for its economic and political stability, multicultural harmony and steady progress. 31st August 2007 marks the 50th year of this country's independence from British colonialism and the day the joyful, triumphant shouts of “Merdeka, Merdeka, Merdeka!” resonated throughout the nation as Malaya's first Prime Minister, Allahyarham Tunku Abdul Rahman stood on a podium at Merdeka Square doing the same. At the same time, with all the different races and culture, Malaysia is also known ask the food heaven as it varies from other countries.

The Flag : Jalur Gemilang ( Stripes Of Glory)

The flag of Malaysia, also known as the Jalur Gemilang ("Stripes of Glory"), comprises a field of 14 alternating red and white stripes along the fly and a blue canton bearing a crescent and a 14-point star known as the Bintang Persekutuan or Federal Star. The 14 stripes, of equal width, represent the equal status in the federation of the 13 member states and the federal government, while the 14 points of the star represent the unity between these entities. [1] The crescent represents Islam, the country's official religion; the yellow of the star and crescent is the royal colour of the Malay rulers; the blue canton symbolizes the unity of the Malaysian people. This blue canton was originally chosen to represent a connection between the federation and the Commonwealth but this was gradually downplayed and eventually supplanted by its current interpretation. [2]

Though its design is similar to the British East India Company and of the flag of the United States, no substantive connection to either flag has been established.[3]

In blazon, the Malaysian flag is described as: "A banner Gules, seven bars Argent; the canton Azure charged with decrescent and mullet of fourteen points Or." This means "a red flag with seven horizontal white stripes; the upper-left (hoist) quarter is blue with a yellow waning crescent (i.e. horns pointing to sinister) and a yellow 14-pointed star."

A song was also composed for the flag of this glorious country.. the title of the song is also the flag's name

Malay Text: Jalur Gemilang

Merahmu bara semangat waja
Putihmu bersih budi pekerti
Kuning berdaulat payung negara
Biru perpaduan kami semua
Puncak dunia telah kau tawan
Lautan luas telah kau redah
Membawa semangat jiwa Merdeka
Semangat jaya kami warganya
Empat belas melintang jalurnya
Semua negeri dalam Malaysia
Satu suara satu semangat
Itu sumpah warga berdaulat
Jalur Gemilang dibawah naunganmu
Jalur Gemilang kami semua bersatu
Perpaduan kedaulatan
Amalan murni rakyat Malaysia
Jalur Gemilang megah kami terasa
Jalur Gemilang kibarkanlah wawasan
Merah, putih, biru, kuning
Jalur semangat kami semua
(2x)
Berkibarlah, berkibarlah, berkibarlah
Jalur Gemilang!
English Translation: Stripes Of Glory
Blazing red with steely will
White so clean and kind of character
Sovereign yellow, the country's protector
Blue for all of us in unity
You have reached the heights of the world
You have traversed the wide waters
Bearing the spirit of Merdeka ('independence')
We are members of its successful will
Fourteen stripes across it
All the states of Malaysia
One voice, one spirit
So its sovereign citizens solemnly swear
Jalur Gemilang, beneath your care
Jalur Gemilang, we unite
Sovereign unity
Malaysian citizens' good charity
Jalur Gemilang, how proud we feel
Jalur Gemilang, proclaim our vision
Red, white, blue, yellow
Are the stripes of our resolve
(2x)
Fly, fly, fly
Jalur Gemilang!

The Rukun Negara (National Principles)

The Rukunegara or sometimes Rukun Negara (Malay for "National Principles") is a philosophy and national ideology — the de facto Malaysian pledge of allegiance — was instituted by royal proclamation on Merdeka Day, 1970, in reaction to a serious race riot known as the May 13 Incident which occurred in 1969. The incident proved at that time that Malaysian racial balance and stability was fragile at best. Immediately thereafter, the Malaysian government immediate sought ways to foster unity among Malaysians. One of the methods used to encourage unity is the Rukunegara. The Rukunegara was inspired in part by the Indonesian Pancasila, and like the Pancasila, is based on five guiding principles.

The word Rukunegara can refer to the whole declaration, the words after the preamble (beginning Maka kami...) or the five principles alone.

National Anthem : Negaraku (My Country)

Negaraku, tanah tumpahnya darahku,
Rakyat hidup, bersatu dan maju,
Rahmat bahagia, Tuhan kurniakan,
Raja kita, selamat bertakhta.
Rahmat bahagia, Tuhan kurniakan,
Raja kita, selamat bertakhta.

In English[1]:

Oh, My Motherland,
The Land where my life began,
Where people live in harmony and prosperity,
With God-given blessings of happiness,
Our King reigns in peace.
With God-given blessings of happiness,
Our King reigns in peace.

A more literal translation would be:

My country, land where my blood was spilt,
The people live united and in progress,
Blessings of happiness, may God grant,
(And that) our King may reign in peace.
Blessings of happiness, may God grant,
(And that) our King may reign in peace.
